Personal
Biography
I've been making websites since before the dot–com bubble burst — first for fun, then for money. Soon I was reading everything I could get my hands on and exploring the new worlds of print design, logo design, and website programming and development. Initially I thought of it all as a way to help pay may way through Western Washington University, but somehow I forgot to stop doing it when I graduated in the spring of 2006. (My degree is Anthropology with a Concentration in Archaeology in case you're curious.)
Since then, I've been a full-time freelancer, working from my home office and occasionally my favorite coffee shop.
Despite being a relatively recent transplant to Bellingham (though a Northwest lifer), I consider myself a native now. I'm a proud member of Sustainable Connections, and enjoy working with other talented people throughout the community.
When I manage to turn off the computer — which is less often than I'd like these days — I’m usually cooking, brewing beer, hiking and backpacking, or playing guitar, bass, and the odd bit of ukulele.
Green-Friendly Design
Sustainability and operating an environmentally responsible business are important to me.
I offset my energy usage with green tags from Native Energy, limit paper use where possible, and utilize locally-produced 100% post-consumer recycled paper for day-to-day office use. I’m proud to work with organizations like Western Washington University’s Students for Renewable Energy, one of the foremost environmental student organizations in the nation.
I’m always excited to work with clients that are looking for green websites or printed materials.
Elsewhere
I enjoy writing, and have a (semi–)regular monthly column on a range of website design topics over at Outlaw Design Blog, and occasionally post my thoughts on cooking at Impoverished Gourmet.
